In Victoria, residents from September 2013 will be given the choice between set contract rates or new flexible electricity contracts. These flexible rates offer households with different electricity charges at different times of the day. The choice is yours on whether to switch or not to the new flexible pricing options.
Should you select the flexible rates option; different prices will apply at different times throughout the day. Therefore higher charges will be during peak times and lower charges at the shoulder and off-peak times. Outside peak hours you would pay a smaller amount for your power usage.
Flexible pricing during weekdays will be as follows;
Peak times 3pm – 9 pm
Shoulder times 7am – 3pm and 9pm-10pm
Off peak times 10pm – 7am
Weekends
Shoulder times 7am-10pm
Off peak times 10pm – 7am
To find out if you have the option to access flexible pricing you will require a remotely-read Smart Meter, contact your electricity company to find out if your home is ready.
