Carbon tax and the 2013 Federal Election

As the Federal election fast approaches, a very prominent election policy has been the carbon tax.

The carbon tax originally introduced by the Gillard government and became effective on 1st July 2013. The plan of the scheme required entities which produce over 25,000 tonnes per year of carbon dioxide greenhouse gases to pay per tonne of carbon they released into the environment.

NSW, SA and Queensland Electricity Prices Rise again in 2013

For NSW, South Australian and Queensland families currently stressing about their ever growing electricity bills, 2013 has already delivered another price rise of at least 1.5% (and in some cases up to 15%) following the assessment by the Australian Energy Regulator to support an rise in electricity tariff charges across the network.

This new price increase is extra to the carbon tax included in household bills last year.

Flexible Electricity Pricing available for Victorian Residents

In Victoria, residents from September 2013 will be given the choice between set contract rates or new flexible electricity contracts. These flexible rates offer households with different electricity charges at different times of the day. The choice is yours on whether to switch or not to the new flexible pricing options.

Should you select the flexible rates option; different prices will apply at different times throughout the day. Therefore higher charges will be during peak times and lower charges at the shoulder and off-peak times. Outside peak hours you would pay a smaller amount for your power usage.
